Here is my understanding of how the appeal process worked.

  1. Michigan Conference made a formal appeal to the Lake Union Conference. (See exhibit 1)

  2. The Lake Union Conference (LUC) is made up of delegations from five conferences, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Lake Region, Michigan.

  3. The officers of the LUC organized the process as follows.

    a. A sub-committee, Chaired by the LUC Executive Secretary was made up of a ministerial or an executive secretary from each conference, lay people, and pastors. No one from Michigan Conference was part of the sub-committee.

    b. The sub-committee listened to presentations from the Michigan Conference and representatives from the Village Church elders.

    c. The sub-committee then made a recommendation to the LUC Executive Committee.

    d. The Executive Committee had the final say and was responsible for the response in exhibit 2.

    e. When the LUC Executive Committee deliberated and voted their response, the Michigan Conference members of the executive committee were not present.
